Chelsea have been perennial contenders for the Champions League for much of the past two decades, the club’s billionaire investment designed to take the west Londoners to the summit of club football.
Roman Abramovich’s lavish spending has seen several huge names arrive at Stamford Bridge, the transformative takeover seeing the Blues regularly feature in the competition’s latter stages.
Chelsea have reached at least the semi-finals on seven occasions since Abramovich’s arrival as owner, making history after becoming the first London side to win the Champions League during the 2011/12 season.
That night was one of many special occasions the club have enjoyed in continental competition in modern times, with the promise of more to come as Thomas Tuchel’s side stand on the verge of reaching the last four this season.
